  7. If you are running Windows 95 please be sure to use the Win32
  8. version for long filename support, etc.
  9.  
  10. Windows 95-specific features include:
  11.  
  12.   * Extract an archive to any directory via drag and drop without
  13.     leaving the Explorer.  Use the right mouse button to drag and
  14.     drop a ZIP from an Explorer window to any directory, then
  15.     choose "Extract to" from the context menu.  Remember to use
  16.     the RIGHT mouse button while dragging.
  17.  
  18.   * Add files to an archive without leaving the Explorer.  Select
  19.     files in the Explorer and drag and drop them on a ZIP file in
  20.     the active Explorer window, in another Explorer window, or to
  21.     a ZIP file on the desktop.
  22.  
  23.   * Add selected files to a ZIP directly from the Explorer with
  24.     complete control over the options:  RIGHT-click on any file
  25.     (or selected group of files) in the Explorer and choose "Add
  26.     To Zip" from the context menu.  This provides a function
  27.     similar to the Add entry in the WinZip File Manager Extension.

  29.   * Create archives in the Explorer (or on the desktop) by
  30.     RIGHT-clicking on the desktop and choosing "WinZip File" from
  31.     the "New" context menu entry.  You can then add files to the
  32.     new archive as described above.

  34.   * Explorer-style mini-icons are displayed next to files in an
  35.     archive to help identify the file type.
  36.  
  37.   * Explorer-style Add dialog box.
  38.  
  39.   * The Delete Archive operation moves archives to the Recyle Bin
  40.     rather than permanently deleting the archive.

  42.   * The Rename, Copy, and Move operations use the Windows 95
  43.     "overwrite" user interface.

  45.   * ZIPs opened with WinZip are properly added to the Start
  46.     Menu->Documents menu.

  62.   * The WinZip Options/Explorer Configuration dialog box lets you
  63.     add WinZip to the Start menu and Desktop.

  69.   Known problems under Windows 95:  a few people have reported
  70.   problems running the optional external DOS programs while using
  71.   16-bit Windows video drivers.  Also, the Windows 3.1 version of
  72.   the Norton "FileAssist" program is incompatible with WinZip
  73.   under Windows 95.  If you use FileAssist be sure to configure it
  74.   not to try to change WinZip dialog boxes.

  76. Other changes:
  77.  
  78. * The File Manager Extension is now implemented under Windows 95,
  79.   Windows NT and Win32s.  You will have to choose File Manager
  80.   Configuration from the Options menu and check the second button
  81.   to activate this feature.  The File Manager Extension works the
  82.   same as it does under Windows 3.1.
  83.  
  84. * WinZip now allows you to view multiple files in an archive
  85.   without first closing the first file (earlier versions of WinZip
  86.   restricted you to closing the first file before viewing the
  87.   second file).  Under Windows 95 the system "Quick View" program
  88.   is normally used as the "Default Association" used to view to
  89.   files not associated with another program.  Here are some
  90.   implementation details:  when you double click on a file in an
  91.   archive, WinZip extracts the file to the "Temp Directory"
  92.   specified in the Options/Directories dialog box.  WinZip then
  93.   runs the program associated with the file so you can view the
  94.   file.  When you later close the archive WinZip deletes the
  95.   temporary file(s).  If the file(s) have been modified WinZip
  96.   will give you an opportunity to update the archive with the
  97.   modified file.  The "Always on Top" flag is temporarily turned
  98.   off if it is on when you view a file, and is turned back on the
  99.   next time you activate WinZip.

  101. * The WinZip installation procedure now includes "Express Setup"
  102.   and "Custom Setup" options.  Custom Setup results in the "old"
  103.   WinZip 5.6 behavior.  Express Setup, the default, skips the
  104.   Program Locations dialog box, the File Manager Configuration
  105.   dialog box, and "Create Program Group" prompt.

  107. * With more and more people using the Internet, virus scanning is
  108.   more important.  As a result, WinZip's support for virus
  109.   scanners has been improved.  The virus scanner parameters field
  110.   now supports two new special values:  %d represents the
  111.   directory containing the files to be scanned (without a trailing
  112.   *.*), and %f represents a temporary "report" file.  %wscan is a
  113.   special parameter that should be used only for McAfee's WSCAN
  114.   2.14 and compatible scanners.  WinZip now searches for and
  115.   supplies default parameters four additional scanners:  wscan,
  116.   f-prot, tbscan, and wfindvir.  The "Run as Iconized DOS Session
  117.   If Possible" checkbox has been replaced with the "Run Minimized"
  118.   checkbox, which is now used for both DOS and Windows scanners.

  120. * The number one new support problem in WinZip 5.6 was caused by
  121.   the "TAR File LF to CR/LF Conversion".  This option, intended
  122.   for text files only, caused problems for binary files.  The
  123.   option has been replaced by the "TAR File Smart CR/LF
  124.   Conversion" option.  When this option is in effect WinZip
  125.   determines whether to perform CR/LF conversion for each file by
  126.   looking at the first 80 characters in the file.  If the file is
  127.   a text file then single LF and CR characters are converted to
  128.   CR/LF pairs so the file can be viewed by Notepad and other
  129.   Windows viewers.  Text files are considered files where the
  130.   first 80 bytes contain only characters with ascii values between
  131.   0x20 and 0x7f, carriage returns, line feeds, form feeds, tabs,
  132.   and other alphanumeric characters (as determined by the Windows
  133.   IsCharAlphaNumeric API).
